Uber (Jamaica)
Global ride-hailing app operating in Kingston and Montego Bay
What it does
Uber operates its standard ride-hailing service (via the global Uber app, not a Jamaica-specific build) in Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica, with a dedicated country landing page at uber.com/jm/en. Uber Eats was separately announced for Kingston in 2018 but its current local status is unclear.
Uber's Jamaica operations have faced regulatory friction: in mid-2024 the Jamaican government imposed a 12-month ban on ride-hailing platforms (Uber, inDrive, 876OnTheGo, Lyft, Ride Jamaica) citing national security concerns around unregulated drivers. By early 2026 reporting indicated Uber and inDrive were still in use despite the ban, with Jamaica's Fair Trading Commission recommending formal regulation over prohibition.
