NIDS (National Identification System)
Jamaica's national digital ID system and enrollment portal, issuing a lifelong ID number
By National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA)
What it does
NIDS is Jamaica's National Identification System, administered by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), issuing every citizen and resident a unique, lifelong National Identification Number and a free National ID card intended to verify identity for online and offline public and private digital services. It launched enrollment in November 2024, with NIRA expanding enrollment capacity through the 2026/2027 financial year.
Applicants book an enrollment appointment through NIRA's online portal to complete biometric registration; no dedicated citizen-facing mobile app was found during research, so digital access is currently web/portal-based rather than an app.
