Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities

The Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities is the statutory body operating under the Disabilities Act of 2014, and it has represented persons with disabilities since 1973. Its site states that its registry holds over 17,000 registered individuals, and registration is the gateway to the Council's support programmes.

Those programmes are applied for through the Council and set out on the site: an assistive aid grant, an economic empowerment grant, educational and emergency grants, medical and funeral grants, and the Margaret Moody Scholarship. The My JCPD platform, offered as a mobile app and a web based management information system, is the digital channel for registered clients, with help desk support by phone, WhatsApp, email and social media plus a published emergency contact route.

Other services include accessibility audits of public and private spaces, disability training and sensitisation, rehabilitation and transition services, and disaster relief support, with assistance currently directed at people affected by Hurricane Melissa. Publications include the 2023 edition of the Accessibility Checklist and public education material on the Disabilities Act. Services are free to registered clients.
