What it does
Jamaica Open Data is the Government of Jamaica's public data portal, publishing datasets from various ministries and agencies covering areas such as revenue and loan receipts, the national budget, public debt, poverty maps, health facilities, consumer prices and other economic indicators. It runs on DKAN, an open-source, Drupal-based data-publishing and cataloguing tool.
The portal was launched by the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology with support from the UK's Department for International Development and the World Bank, as part of Jamaica's participation in the World Bank's Open Data Readiness Assessment programme; Jamaica was the third Caribbean country to take part in that programme and the second to complete an accompanying Open Budget Data Readiness Assessment. SlashRoots Foundation, a local civic-tech non-profit, has partnered on related open-data literacy work built around the portal.
