Forestry Department Jamaica
Forest permits, a GIS portal and forest resource reports for Jamaica
What it does
The Forestry Department manages and conserves Jamaica's forest resources, around 117,000 hectares, and issues the permits and licences that govern use of them. Its site carries the permit and licence information and a GIS request form for custom mapping work, alongside a GIS portal and services for map georeferencing and digitisation.
Published material includes the State of Jamaica's Forests Report for 2024, a Manual of Dendrology, a resource document library, and educational materials organised by age level from early childhood to tertiary.
The department also uses the site for its public activities, including the Forest Trek hiking events usually held in March, rental of the training facility at its headquarters, plant rentals for events, and seasonal pine cone sales from October to December. It is located at 173 Constant Spring Road, Kingston 8. Information and reports are free; permits and rentals are charged.
