National Library of Jamaica
National repository with a WorldCat catalogue, digital collections and poetry archive
By National Library of Jamaica
What it does
The National Library of Jamaica was established in 1979 out of the West India Reference Library, founded in 1894, and holds the national collection of Jamaican and Caribbean newspapers, manuscripts, photographs, maps and printed material. Its site is built around searchable services rather than static description.
The main catalogue is searchable through a hosted WorldCat instance at nlj.on.worldcat.org. Digitised material is published in a digital collections portal at nljdigital.nlj.gov.jm, with a separate Jamaican Poetry Archive at japoetryarchive.nlj.gov.jm and a poetry index search at /poetryindex/search.htm. A databases and resource guides section points researchers to subscribed and open resources.
Researchers register for reading room access online at /research/registration and submit research queries through /research. Reproduction and service fees can be paid online at /payment.
