What it does
Kingston Beta is the tech community and event series that seeded Jamaica's startup scene. It began in 2007, co-founded by Ingrid Riley and Susan LeeQuee, with a handful of Jamaican technologists meeting at a coffee bar in Southdale Plaza in Kingston, and it is described as the Caribbean's longest running tech event community.
The programme now covers regular meetups, a startup stage where founders pitch, office hours, coworking popups and summits, and in 2025 it added Kingston Beta House, a coworking format built around the community. Over its run it reports more than 300 events across Jamaica, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago and cities including New York, Miami and Nairobi, and it was involved in creating Digital Jam 2.0 with the World Bank and the Jamaican government.
