What it does
JamGOra (its name blending "Jamaica" with the Greek "Agora," meaning marketplace) is an e-commerce marketplace founded in November 2013 by CEO Maurice P.G. Sawyers. It was built to solve two problems at once: small Jamaican merchants struggled to affordably promote products, while local consumers often looked overseas for variety they couldn't easily find at home.
The platform lets any registered Jamaican business, across any industry, list and sell products, and it markets itself on fast worldwide delivery for buyers shopping Jamaican merchants. Its mission is explicitly to support the growth of Jamaican SMEs and individual entrepreneurs through a shared, secured online storefront rather than each merchant building their own site.
