What it does
The Jamaica Teaching Council regulates the teaching profession, and registration with it is required under section 33 of the Education (Amendment) Act 1980. Its site runs the Teacher Management Information System, TMIS, through which teachers apply for registration, update records created before 2019, and check the status of an application.
Two further systems are reachable from the site: the Zyqual platform where teachers complete performance appraisals online, and a certificate management function for verifying and downloading professional development certificates.
A professional development portal publishes training opportunities and resources, with professional development kits, Master Teacher recognition programme material, the Lead Teacher Programme, teacher mentorship guidance and a resources library.
