What it does
The Jamaica National Heritage Trust was created under a 1985 law that renamed and expanded the former Jamaica National Trust Commission. Its site holds the public record of the country's declared historic sites and monuments, organised by site type covering forts, churches, great houses, cemeteries and lighthouses among others, and browsable by parish through a regional exploration tool.
Alongside the database the Trust publishes a downloadable list of declared sites and monuments, e-brochures for individual heritage locations, and a set of 24 curated historic tour guides. Featured heritage content and educational material sit in the same section.
News covers current preservation work, and an archive documents past projects including archaeological excavations. The site also carries reference material on Jamaica's history, government and national heroes, links to educational and tourism sites, and contact and documentation request forms. Access is free.
