What it does

Jamaica Food AI Scan is a calorie and macronutrient tracker whose recognition model is aimed at Jamaican dishes. The listing sets out the problem directly: general purpose food scanners trained on North American meals misread ackee as scrambled egg and log rice and peas as plain rice, so the portions and the calorie figures come out wrong for a Jamaican plate.

The app photographs a meal and returns the dish name, portion and calorie count, with a breakdown of protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre, sugar and sodium per meal, and syncs results into Apple Health. Alongside the scanner it holds a stated library of over one hundred and thirty traditional recipes including oxtail with butter beans, curry goat, ackee and saltfish, brown stew chicken, pumpkin soup, mannish water, gizzada and sorrel.

It is free on the App Store, released in April 2026, and published by Di Nerd Apps LLC, the same developer behind a Jamaica Patois translator. The company does not state a country, and the listing addresses the diaspora explicitly, so origin is recorded as Jamaica targeted.
