JAM-DEX
Bank of Jamaica central bank digital currency, spent through licensed wallet apps
What it does
JAM-DEX is the digital form of the Jamaican dollar issued by the Bank of Jamaica. It is central bank money rather than a private balance, and it is held and spent through wallet applications operated by deposit taking institutions that the central bank has onboarded as wallet providers. The Bank of Jamaica page for the currency carries the ceremonial first minting record, a frequently asked questions section, wallet provider announcements and a directory of merchants that accept JAM-DEX.
Wallet access started with NCB through its Lynk app, and the Bank of Jamaica later announced JN Bank as an additional wallet provider, giving the public a second route into the currency. Because JAM-DEX is issued centrally, a payment moves between wallets without settling through the card networks.
The Bank of Jamaica page is the authoritative public reference for the currency, including the merchant acceptance list, so it is catalogued as the JAM-DEX entry rather than any single wallet.
