Restouri
Search Jamaican restaurants by dish, oxtail or curry goat, not by restaurant name
What it does
Restouri is a meal-first restaurant discovery app for Jamaica: a search for "oxtail" returns priced menu items across kitchens plus a separate list of places, because dishes are first-class records with their own ranking, tags and favourites rather than metadata attached to a restaurant. A "Pick fi mi" feature picks a dish for an undecided shopper, honouring their filters through a real backend endpoint.
It installs like an app, keeps working on a shaky signal, and signs users in without a password. Restaurant owners get their own app to claim and update a listing, with new claims reviewed before they go live. The catalogue covers roughly 1,555 restaurants across all 14 parishes, seeded by tagging restaurants on ingestion and extracting real dishes from menu photos so search returns results from day one. When a shopper is ready to order, Restouri hands off to the restaurant's own WhatsApp number rather than running its own checkout.
Restouri is live and does not process payments itself; ordering is deliberately handed off to WhatsApp, which the team treats as an explicit non-goal for this version rather than a missing feature.
