LMIS Jamaica

LMIS is the national Labour Market Information System run by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and the online face of the Ministry's Electronic Labour Exchange. Job seekers register and log in to post and edit a resume, search vacancies and apply, at no cost. Employers register to post and edit vacancies, search a database of skilled workers and select candidates. The site also carries skills banks, career development material, employer resources, an events listing and labour market news.

The Labour Market Intelligence section publishes the qualitative and quantitative labour market data the Ministry gathers from various producers, which the site says is disseminated through the web to improve access. The service is described as partnered with the International Labour Organization.

The Ministry's own page for the Electronic Labour Exchange states the documents a job seeker needs to register, including two letters of recommendation, an NIS card and a Taxpayer Registration Number, and sets out the offline side of the service. That includes computers at the North Street office in Kingston, career guidance and candidate screening, conference facilities at the North Street, Mandeville and Saint Ann's Bay offices, and access through Ministry parish offices and branches of the Jamaica Library Service. The list of licensed employment agencies is published by the Ministry's Employment Agencies Unit.
